Deputy Ben Fields Drags young African American Student Across the floor in South Carolina10/28/2015 So I came across this article written by Tom Cleary a reporter and editor for Heavy.com. Tom was a breaking news reporter at the Connecticut Post and an editor at the Register Citizen and New Haven Register. I am filled with rage behind this video and the out pour of comments that are negative behind the video. I always say "people will never understand until they are put in the same situation". A lot of grown adults some with children and some without little one's stated that, "the girl deserved it", or "she must of had a smart mouth", or "she had to be doing something disruptive to get done like that". Yes everyone has a right to their own opinion but let me say this, I have two daughters and my oldest is about the same age as the young lady in the video and I do not in any circumstances agree with that grown man putting his hands on that young lady like that. No amount of disruption deserves this treatment. Like I said I would be furious if that was my child and Let it have been a white girl, Oh yesssssss the media, parents, teachers, elderly, army, and so forth would be on his ass immediately. They would have locked him up before the video surfaced. Trust me this thing would have went totally different. We see evidence of the unfair treatment daily as African Americans but other races think we are just always complaining about the smallest things just because we are still mad about slavery. Take for instance the way they handled the case with Dylann Roff and how gentle they were with him after brutally killing 9 black people. They offered him something to eat before going to the jail. That is a slap in the face to the people of color. It seems to me they did it just to get a reaction out of our people. Not only that they also had bodyguards protecting him from anyone trying to shoot at him. Let's not forget the money raised for his bond; this boy should never be let out for shit he should have gotten no bond at all. That's our system, white is right and they receive privileges that no other race will ever get. To my point of the article, there is no way action should be taken like this on any student that refuses to stop texting in class. We have all been young before and some of us were bad as hell growing up, but usually a teacher back in our day would only have to say, "I'm calling your mama or daddy". I really feel like that is the action the school should have taken. Now they are in fear of getting a law suit, which I strongly suggest that the parents of the young lady takes action on. There are ways that don't require an officer putting their hands on people in a way to inflict pain on an individual that is not threatening your life as a officer or authority figure. That was a little girl and from the looks of it he had a lot of hate behind his reaction and I pray he pays for what he did for the rest of his life. Now this is Tom Cleary's Article and feel free to comment your opinion Fields has been sued twice in federal court during his time as a deputy, including one pending lawsuit filed by a Spring Valley High School student accusing him of unfairly targeting African-American students. The school district and the sheriff’s office are investigating the incident. The district told WLTX-TV in a statement, “We are aware of an incident that occurred today at Spring Valley High School. Video of it has been posted on social media. The incident is under investigation. We are working closely with the sheriff’s department.” Parents in a group called the Richland Two Black Parents Association told WIS-TV the video is “egregious and “unacceptable,” adding in a statement, “Parents are heartbroken as this is just another example of the intolerance that continues to be of issue in Richland School District Two particularly with families and children of color. As we have stated in the past, we stand ready to work in collaboration to address these horrible acts of violence and inequities among our children.” Tom Cleary can be reached by email at [email protected].
