Well I want to partake in the movement that is all ready taking place slowly but surely in WS. The black community is re-learning to be more supportive of the businesses that surround our community which in return will build up our community for many reason that I will list below. JOHN RAMPTON CONTRIBUTOR Entrepreneur and Connector 1.1k Shares APRIL 17, 2015 In recent years, a movement has begun. It’s a movement that takes consumers away from large, impersonal big-box retailers and introduces them to the people doing business in their very own cities. These are local farmers, craftsmen, antiques dealers, and other product providers, with items made locally and sold on a small scale. When a consumer supports his local business owners, he enjoys benefits he can’t possibly get from shopping at national chains. Here are some top reasons to support your local entrepreneurs. 1. Improve your family’s health.Buying local foods has numerous health benefits to your family. When you buy from local farmers, you have access to fruits and vegetables that you know are chemical free, as well as grass-fed meats, fresh eggs, and dairy from cows that feast on local green grass each day. There are also benefits to eating raw local honeys, which are thought to help battle allergies. Related: How the Farm-to-Table Movement Is Helping Grow the Economy 2. Improve the local economy. When a consumer buys local, significantly more of that money stays in the community. In fact, one Chicago study found that for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 remained in the city while only $43 of each $100 spent at a chain retailer. Local business owners often have incentive to support other local businesses, patronizing local establishments for both business and personal reasons. Chain businesses, on the other hand, tend to get their supplies from corporate, as well as having store managers and employees that aren’t as personally invested in buying local. 3. Know the people behind the product. When you personally know the people behind the business where you’re buying local products and services, you enjoy a connection you would not otherwise have. Along with the rest of the community, you celebrate when a favorite local business succeeds and you mourn when it’s forced to shut its doors. This personal investment isn’t quite as present when a chain business closes, aside from feeling disappointment that you have fewer businesses within convenient driving distance. Towns across America have similar chain restaurants, grocery and department stores but that diner down the street where you have breakfast every Saturday morning is one-of-a-kind. The combined presence of your town’s many local businesses makes it different from every other city in the world. By supporting those businesses instead of chains, you ensure that uniqueness is preserved as a part of your community. 5. Better customer service. If you’ve ever dealt with a large corporation, you know getting help can be a nightmare. You’ll call a 1-800 number, only to be transferred seven times and put on hold. Even when you speak to a customer service representative, that person is so far removed from the decision-making process, there’s little concern that the company will lose you as a customer. When you shop local, the business owner is usually directly connected to every employee in the store. That leads to a personal approach that often means any problem you have is taken seriously. 6. More personalized service.Having the owner nearby also means that owner personally knows his customers. He knows the products you buy or the services you request on a regular basis and can tailor services to make your experience even better. A local gardening shop owner may learn about a new product on the market that can help you with a pest control problem you mentioned on one of your visits, for instance, and can order that product as part of his selections. Buying local has benefits beyond mere convenience. When you support local business owners, you get a better level of service, as well as helping make your community a better place to live. This is in addition to the health benefits and access to unique products that you usually can’t find with chain locations. Deputy Ben Fields Drags young African American Student Across the floor in South Carolina10/28/2015 So I came across this article written by Tom Cleary a reporter and editor for Heavy.com. Tom was a breaking news reporter at the Connecticut Post and an editor at the Register Citizen and New Haven Register. I am filled with rage behind this video and the out pour of comments that are negative behind the video. I always say "people will never understand until they are put in the same situation". A lot of grown adults some with children and some without little one's stated that, "the girl deserved it", or "she must of had a smart mouth", or "she had to be doing something disruptive to get done like that". Yes everyone has a right to their own opinion but let me say this, I have two daughters and my oldest is about the same age as the young lady in the video and I do not in any circumstances agree with that grown man putting his hands on that young lady like that. No amount of disruption deserves this treatment. Like I said I would be furious if that was my child and Let it have been a white girl, Oh yesssssss the media, parents, teachers, elderly, army, and so forth would be on his ass immediately. They would have locked him up before the video surfaced. Trust me this thing would have went totally different. We see evidence of the unfair treatment daily as African Americans but other races think we are just always complaining about the smallest things just because we are still mad about slavery. Take for instance the way they handled the case with Dylann Roff and how gentle they were with him after brutally killing 9 black people. They offered him something to eat before going to the jail. That is a slap in the face to the people of color. It seems to me they did it just to get a reaction out of our people. Not only that they also had bodyguards protecting him from anyone trying to shoot at him. Let's not forget the money raised for his bond; this boy should never be let out for shit he should have gotten no bond at all. That's our system, white is right and they receive privileges that no other race will ever get. To my point of the article, there is no way action should be taken like this on any student that refuses to stop texting in class. We have all been young before and some of us were bad as hell growing up, but usually a teacher back in our day would only have to say, "I'm calling your mama or daddy". I really feel like that is the action the school should have taken. Now they are in fear of getting a law suit, which I strongly suggest that the parents of the young lady takes action on. There are ways that don't require an officer putting their hands on people in a way to inflict pain on an individual that is not threatening your life as a officer or authority figure. That was a little girl and from the looks of it he had a lot of hate behind his reaction and I pray he pays for what he did for the rest of his life. Now this is Tom Cleary's Article and feel free to comment your opinion Fields has been sued twice in federal court during his time as a deputy, including one pending lawsuit filed by a Spring Valley High School student accusing him of unfairly targeting African-American students. The school district and the sheriff’s office are investigating the incident. The district told WLTX-TV in a statement, “We are aware of an incident that occurred today at Spring Valley High School. Video of it has been posted on social media. The incident is under investigation. We are working closely with the sheriff’s department.” Parents in a group called the Richland Two Black Parents Association told WIS-TV the video is “egregious and “unacceptable,” adding in a statement, “Parents are heartbroken as this is just another example of the intolerance that continues to be of issue in Richland School District Two particularly with families and children of color. As we have stated in the past, we stand ready to work in collaboration to address these horrible acts of violence and inequities among our children.” Tom Cleary can be reached by email at [email protected]. Follow him on Twitter@tomwcleary. Please as you watch this video you all allowed to give your honest opinion about what you think. This video opens your eyes as a black person as well as for others. As a child I was raised in a Christian Family. My Father was and still is a Pentecostal Holiness Preacher and my Mother the same. I had 2 brothers and 1 sister growing up and we all have strayed away from the church do to the fact of continuous ridicule, negative association with words, and no respect for the first family. Not all were the cause of the feelings that I just mentioned but many were. In particular I remember growing up feeling as if I was damned to hell weather I tried to do whats right or came to church on a daily basis. As an adult the feeling remained in my mental everyday. I am 30 years old now and a couple of months before I turned 30 my oldest brother Jehiah Cundiff began to open my mental to knowledge of teachings he came into connection with while in theological school to receive his Masters. Now mind you 5 years before I decided to listen to him and get a understanding of where he was coming from, as a Christian I though he was crazy at first and would cut him off from the conversation. As time went on I began to have doubts due to certain scriptures that I would read in the bible. I don't know the exact placing of the scripture but I do remember it went a little like this, "Obey your slave masters". That saying really had me asking questions. Through it all I knew that God would not leave me confused and hurt about the religion that I was raised up on for long.
My brother came home from being in New York for 5 years and we had time to spend with each other which lead to me learning a different truth, the truth about the history of African Ancestors. I will not go into detail's about everything discussed but lets say I have been freed from years of lies, misunderstanding and the curse of not knowing who I truly was. I had to do my own research in order for me to get a full understanding of the truth about African History. I just know there were many lies told to our people and knowledge is key. This information is for those that have a open mind set and are willing to do research to learn their history. There are videos on you tube that you can watch to get a better understanding. (hidden colors and Dr. Ray Higins ). Start with those video's and from there you will be instructed on other ways to research. Once again this is not something for those that are closed mind and many will try to fight against you with the research you try to share with them on the subject so be couscous of who you decide to share this with and gain as much Knowledge as possible. |
